Aardrin Radbourne, second son of the Baron Radbourne, grandson of the wizard Tiernan. Became one of the Transformed (a punishment for crimes under High King Gaetan where the criminal is transformed into a horse) after he made the mistake of sleeping with the wife of the Captain of the Royal Guard. When in horse form he looks like a paint, when in human form his hair retains the color of his mane, including the streaks.
Rysta Eachen, only child of Kenyon and Riana Eachen. Raised on her parent’s horse ranch until the age of 8, she unfortunately was witness to her parent’s murder by the Wizard Shok’Artel. Aardrin takes her to his grandfather, Tiernan to keep her safe and she learns to be a Sorceress.
Yokov was a farmer’s son before he was drafted into Gaetan’s army. He excelled in tracking, since he had been trained to hunt that way as a child. He was paired off with his partner Mirko to help hunt down the criminal Wizard Tiernan for Shok’Artel. The next thing he knows he’s captured and taken in by the criminal he’s been hunting. His loyalties shift after hearing Tiernan’s tale and he joins Rysta and Aardrin in their quest.
Prince Calaen is the second son of King Ordell of Doumerlas. He became the heir at the age of six when his elder brother, Alaestor, was killed mysteriously at the Capital of the High King. Law dictates that all Heirs to their respective kingdoms become wards of the High King until they are required by their kingdoms to take over. Thus, Calaen was whisked away to be raised in the Court of High King Gaetan. Rysta and Aardrin are sent to rescue Calaen by Tiernan because, it turns out, Calaen is the reincarnation of the Great King Raghnall and his aid is needed in the attempt to overthrow High King Gaetan.
